What is the people counter?

A people counter is a simple tool that tracks how many people enter, leave, or pass through a place accurately. Instead of writing numbers down or carrying a physical tally clicker, you can record each person using an online counter that works directly in your browser.
For example, you might use a people counter to record event attendance, count customers entering a store, keep track of classroom attendance, or perform a manual visitor count. For simple manual counting tasks, a digital counter provides a convenient way to stay organized.

How to Use the People Counter?

Follow these simple steps to start counting and keep your total organized.

1

Set your capacity (optional)

Open the Settings tab at the bottom of the card and enter the maximum number of people allowed, for example 50. Leave it at 0 if you don’t need a limit.

2

Tap Enter when someone comes in

The big “Inside now” number goes up by one, “Total entered” goes up, and the entry is logged with the time. The first tap also records when counting started.

3

Tap Exit when someone leaves

“Inside now” goes down by one and “Total exited” goes up. Exit is greyed out when nobody is inside, so the count can never go below zero.

4

Watch the status badge and bar

With a capacity set, the badge changes as the space fills: Space available: under 80% full. Almost full: 80% or more. At capacity: exactly at the limit, with an alert sound or vibration if those are switched on.
Over capacity: past the limit. It still counts, so your numbers stay accurate, but it warns you.

5

Fix mistakes with Undo

The curved-arrow button next to Enter reverses the last tap, whether it was an entry or an exit.

6

Check the numbers

The strip under the counter shows total entered, total exited, the peak number inside at one time, and when counting started.

7

See the history

Open the Activity tab to see the latest 30 entries and exits, each with its time and how many people were inside after it.

8

Save or share a report

Use the download icon for a CSV spreadsheet of every entry and exit, or the print icon for a printable report you can save as a PDF.

9

Start over

Tap the reset icon, then tap it again within a few seconds to confirm. The double tap prevents accidental wipes.

On a computer, click the counter once and then use the keyboard: Space or ↑ for Enter, ↓ for Exit, and Z for Undo.

Store Visitor Counting

Retail businesses can use a people counter to keep track of customers entering a shop and monitor daily foot traffic. It helps you track visitor numbers without extra devices.

Queues and Crowd

A digital tally can help when you need to count people moving through a specific area. It can be useful at entrances, registration desks, check-in points, busy queues, or other places .

Classroom and School Activities

Teachers can use a digital counter for student attendance, group activities, classroom visitors, or other situations that require a quick headcount. It keeps counting simple while allowing teachers to focus on their class.

Community and Religious Gatherings

Community meetings, fundraisers, religious services, and similar gatherings may require a quick participant count. An online counter offers a convenient way to record attendance without using paper notes or a physical clicker.

People Counter for Different Counting Situations

A People Counter can be used for many everyday counting needs. Whether you are tracking visitors, recording attendance, counting guests, monitoring foot traffic, or managing group activities, a digital counter provides a simple way to keep your numbers organized.

Different tasks may sometimes require different types of counting. For example, you can use a simple people counter to track event attendance while using a separate tally counter for objects, tasks, or inventory. This makes it easier to manage multiple counts without mixing up your totals.

How to Count People Entering and Leaving

Want to keep track of how many people are inside a space? You can do this by recording both entries and exits. Add one to the total whenever someone comes in and subtract one whenever someone leaves.

By updating the count as people move in and out, you can maintain a quick estimate of the current number inside. Since this is a manual process, the accuracy depends on remembering to record each movement. The people counter simply keeps the total for you rather than automatically detecting people or movement.

People counter for events and foot traffic

A People Counter is a handy way to keep track of visitors, attendees, and retail foot traffic when people are constantly coming and going. Event organizers can use it to count guests at conferences, exhibitions, workshops, meetings, festivals, and other gatherings by simply adding one to the total for each person who arrives. If someone is counted twice or a number needs to be corrected, the count can be adjusted without starting over.

Businesses can use the same approach to track customers entering a store, visitors at an exhibition, people visiting a promotional booth, students entering a classroom, or guests using a public facility. If there are multiple entrances, each one can be counted separately, and the numbers can be combined afterward for a total.

Manual counting can also give businesses and organizers a quick idea of how busy a location is during certain hours, events, or peak periods. It works especially well when you only need a simple visitor count instead of a complex automated system or detailed traffic analysis. However, when occupancy limits are important for safety, a basic manual counter should only be used as a counting aid and not as a replacement for official capacity requirements or safety systems.
